Nail-down is the classic hardwood installation method — solid wood planks nailed through the tongue directly into a plywood or wood subfloor. It's the most proven technique for above-grade installations and produces a floor that lasts generations.
Solid hardwood planks nailed through the tongue into a wood subfloor using a floor nailer. The result is a tight, stable floor with natural feel underfoot — no bounce, no flex.
Wider planks (4"–7"+) require more nails per row for stability. We follow manufacturer specs and nail patterns to prevent warping and ensure a flat, even finish across every board.
Engineered hardwood with a thick enough wear layer can also be nailed down. Real wood look and feel, with better dimensional stability across humidity changes common in Georgia.
Nail-down requires a solid, level wood subfloor. We inspect and repair squeaky boards, reinforce weak spots, and ensure your subfloor meets the standard before installing a single plank.
Proven for over 100 years. Nail-down is the original hardwood installation method. No adhesive to fail over time, no floating gaps — just solid wood locked into your subfloor.
Natural feel underfoot. The slight give of nailed hardwood over a joist subfloor produces the authentic feel that homeowners love — different from concrete slab installations.

Nail-down hardwood requires a wood subfloor — typically 3/4" plywood or OSB. It cannot be installed directly over concrete without a sleeper or plywood system. We can add a plywood layer over concrete when needed.
Oak, maple, hickory, and pine are the most common solid hardwood species we install using the nail-down method. Board widths from 2.25" to 5" are ideal; wider planks may require face nailing for added stability.
Solid nail-down hardwood can last 50–100+ years and be sanded and refinished multiple times throughout its life. It is the most durable and longest-lasting flooring option available for wood subfloors.
